A word from the author

Hi, I'm the developer for AppExplorer. AppExplorer is was my first program that I decided to make open source

I was a windows programmer back in the 1990s and I made the very first version of AppExplorer in Visual Studio 5.0.

I used to download lots of software and those days disk space was limited so I used to burn all my downloads onto a CD (Remember, DVDs weren't invented yet!). Thats when I came up with this idea for AppExplorer, a dynamic CD indexing autorun tool.

Linux was slowly becoming popular for home users and I realised that unless AppExplorer was made cross-platform somehow, it would not achieve its full potential. So I re-wrote it all over again in Java and also decided to release the source-code.

It has all come a long way since. AppExplorer is now a mature tool and I am no longer actively developing it. There are some enhancements that would make it better but I chosen to leave these for some aspiring programmer to pick up and complete.

I havent heard much form the users of AppExplorer. It seems this tool has an unusually quiet fan following? There have hardly been any bug reports or feature requests. So if you have done something good with this tool do write to me and share your experience. AppExplorer is a very powerful tool. Do read through this wiki and see for yourself what it can do.
